Hotel & Hosts
When was the hotel founded?
The Krone was first mentioned historically in 1720. The first guests were accommodated in 1836. Since December 2015, the business has been continued in the 8th generation.
Who are the owners/hosts?
The Probst, Gehring, and Kozjak families jointly run the Krone. Florian and Monika Probst, Simone and Andreas Gehring, as well as Dani Kozjak work in the business.
How many rooms does the hotel have?
The hotel has 48 rooms and apartments on the hotel premises.
At what altitude is the hotel located?
The family hotel Krone Unterjoch is located at 1,013 m altitude in a high valley in Unterjoch, a district of Bad Hindelang.
What is special about a family vacation at the Krone?
The Krone combines childcare, playgrounds, and indoor offers with its own riding school, bathing and wellness areas, as well as many experiences in the Allgäu mountains. In winter, skiing and tobogganing are added; in summer, hiking, cable cars, cycling, and other family activities.
Arrival, Check-in & Stay
When is check-in and check-out?
Check-in: Rooms and apartments can be occupied as soon as they are fully cleaned; between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM. Check-out is until 10:30 AM.
Can I arrive earlier or leave later?
Early arrival is possible; the hotel facilities can already be used even if the room is not yet ready. Some offers include free early arrival from 10:00 AM and use of hotel services on the day of departure until 3:00 PM.
Is there a late check-out for an additional charge?
Yes, but only if the room is not occupied afterwards! Until 3:00 PM €50, until 6:00 PM €100.
Is arrival by public transport possible?
Yes. The website mentions arrival by train as well as hotel transfers from the Kempten or Sonthofen train stations. On site, numerous public bus and train connections can be used with Bad Hindelang PLUS.
Is there a shuttle service from the train station or airport?
Yes. The hotel offers transfers for a fee from Memmingen Airport as well as from the Kempten or Sonthofen train stations. The exact arrival time should be communicated preferably two days in advance.
How far is Memmingen Airport?
Memmingen Airport is about 80 km from the hotel.
How far is the Tannheimer Tal?
Krone is located in Unterjoch directly at the Austrian border to the Tannheimer Tal. It can be reached by car in a few minutes.
Are there e-charging stations?
Yes. There is an e-charging station for electric cars at the hotel.
Are there free parking spaces at the hotel?
Yes. Free parking is available for hotel guests.
How do I get to hiking and skiing areas without a car?
With Bad Hindelang PLUS, numerous bus connections can be used free of charge. Additionally, the website mentions the Emmi on-call bus for transfers within the Bad Hindelang municipality as well as connections to hiking and skiing areas.
Rooms & Amenities
What types of rooms are available and how large are they?
There are double and family rooms, family studios, as well as 2- and 3-room family apartments in the hotel complex. Depending on the category, sizes range from about 30 m² to 80 m². Additionally, there are 1- to 4-room holiday apartments or holiday flats in the annex.
Is there a minibar?
No, but the hotel rooms, studios, and family apartments have a small refrigerator.
Is there a coffee machine and a tea kettle in the room?
For rooms and studios, a kettle and a hot plate are provided upon request. There is no coffee machine.
What baby/child equipment is available in the room?
On request, extensive infant equipment is available, including baby cots, bedding and mattress covers, baby nests, changing pads, diaper bins, washbasins, baby food warmers, kettles, baby bathtubs with thermometers, high chairs, seat reducers, bouncers, fall protection, bedside cribs, and many other baby items.
Are baby monitors available in the hotel?
Yes. The hotel complex has a baby monitor system via telephone. Additionally, portable baby monitors and the Bibino app (phone to phone) are offered. For the holiday apartments, a baby monitor is partially available upon request.
Can we book a family room with separate sleeping areas?
Yes. There are family studios with a small children's room as well as 2- and 3-room family apartments with separate living and sleeping areas.
Are there rooms with a kitchen or kitchenette?
Yes. Many family and holiday apartments have a small kitchenette with cooking facilities, sink, and refrigerator. The kitchenettes/kitchens in the rooms may only be used for preparing baby food, as they do not have exhaust hoods and thus activate the fire alarm system. Rooms and studios have a small refrigerator; kettle and hot plate are available on request.
Are the rooms air-conditioned?
No, there are no air conditioning units in the rooms.
Are there allergy-friendly rooms or rooms without carpet?
All apartments and rooms in the hotel complex are allergy-friendly and dust mite free. The holiday apartments Unterjoch are mostly allergy-friendly. In the hotel complex (except for the Zinkestieble and the family studios Bärenloch), all rooms are carpet-free and allergy-friendly.
What bedding and blankets are available, for example for allergy sufferers?
Only allergy bedding is provided! No feather duvets or similar.
Are the rooms completely darkenable?
There are films that can be clipped on the windows from the outside to darken the rooms. Complete darkness cannot be guaranteed.
Is it allowed to leave strollers in the hotel?
Yes, if guests bring their own strollers, they may leave them in the hallway in front of the rooms/apartments.
What is the difference between the apartments in the hotel and the holiday apartments Unterjoch?
The apartments in the hotel complex are located in the hotel village or immediately adjacent and include daily room service. The holiday apartments Unterjoch are located outside the hotel complex, 50m to 650m from the hotel. Breakfast, dinner, and hotel services can be used; daily cleaning service is not automatically included and can be booked daily.
Are there accommodations for large families?
Yes. There are large 3- and 4-room apartments for up to seven people; with babies and toddlers, up to eight people are sometimes possible.
Childcare, Babies & Teenagers
Is there childcare at the hotel?
Yes. Childcare is a central part of the family hotel. From Monday to Saturday, the care team offers age-appropriate programs with games, movement, theme days, and other activities.
For which age groups are care and programs available?
For babies and toddlers up to 3 years old, there is the Zapfe Club; for children up to about 10 years, the Happy Club or the children's program; and for older children and teenagers up to 16 years, there are separate leisure and outdoor activities.
Is there also care for babies and toddlers?
Yes. Care is offered in the Zapfe Club from Monday to Saturday upon registration on site.
From what age is baby care possible?
There is no minimum age; it depends on the baby and the situation.
Does childcare need to be reserved in advance?
Regular registration takes place on site. For certain program points or the communal lunch in the Happy Club, advance registration is required.
Can siblings be cared for together?
This must be arranged on site with the care team.
What happens if my child does not want to stay alone?
Then unfortunately they cannot participate in the program, as otherwise we would have problems with the other children.
Do the children eat together in the Happy Club?
Yes. For children in care, there is the option to have lunch together daily at 12:00 in the Happy Club. Advance registration is required for this.
Is there a program for teenagers?
Yes. Especially during holiday periods, there is a varied leisure and outdoor program for teenagers up to 16 years. This can include activities such as climbing, rafting, ball games, torchlight hikes, or joint excursions. Some activities are chargeable.
What baby equipment is available at the hotel?
Baby equipment includes, among other things, baby cots, changing pads, diaper bins, baby food warmers, kettles, baby bathtubs, baby monitors, high chairs, bibs, baby dishes, strollers, buggies, wagons, backpacks, baby rockers, nursing pillows, and other items.
What can children do in bad weather?
Even in rain, there are indoor play areas, a kids and teens area, funcourt, table tennis, air hockey, foosball, iWall, T-Wall, games and craft materials, as well as the panoramic adventure pool.
Are there playgrounds directly at the hotel?
Yes. Directly on the hotel grounds there is an adventure playground, the funcourt, the four-field trampoline, and the trampoline tent. Additionally, there is a forest playground by the stream with a children's zip line, climbing elements, swings, rope slides, and other play options.
What safety equipment is available for babies and toddlers?
Yes, there are socket protectors. There are stair gates, but only in the Zinkenstieble, as there are no other rooms with stairs.
Food, Drinks & Allergies
What meals are included in the stay?
For adults, the pampering half-board is always included, except when guests book the all-inclusive offer directly. If guests have booked a holiday apartment for self-catering, neither breakfast nor dinner is included.
At what times is breakfast served?
Breakfast is offered in two time slots.
- In summer from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. and from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m.
- In winter from 7:15 to 8:30 a.m. and 8:45 to 10:00 a.m.
At what times is dinner served?
Dinner is offered in two time slots: from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. and from 7:00 to 8:15 p.m.
Is lunch included for adults?
In the classic pampering half-board, lunch is not included for adults. Lunch can be ordered from the daily menu. Additional services are included in the optional all-inclusive package for adults.
The “All Inclusive” for adults includes, in addition to the breakfast buffet and half-board: all non-alcoholic drinks, lunch from the daily menu (not special menus), all types of coffee and tea, drinking chocolate, all cake and ice cream specialties, afternoon menu, all types of beer, sparkling wine, as well as house white and red wine until about 10:00 p.m.
Not included are: spirits, prosecco, premium bottled wines, as well as alcoholic mixed drinks such as Aperol Spritz.
What does Kids All Inclusive mean?
Children up to 15 years receive Kids All Inclusive. This includes, among other things, children's meals, drinks at the beverage fountain, fruit, snacks or pastries or ice cream, as well as an extensive baby buffet.
Can All Inclusive also be booked for adults?
Yes. Adults can book All Inclusive on site. Included are, among other things, non-alcoholic drinks, lunch or snacks, coffee, cake and ice cream, as well as selected beers, house wines and house sparkling wine until 10:00 p.m. Spirits, bottled wines, champagne, as well as cocktails and mixed drinks are excluded.
Are there high chairs and bibs?
Yes. High chairs, seat reducers and bibs are part of the available baby equipment.
Are there allergy and intolerance options, for example gluten-free or lactose-free?
Yes. The kitchen takes certain allergies and intolerances into account upon prior notification, for example celiac disease or lactose intolerance. We ask for contact preferably about two weeks before arrival. There is an additional charge for special allergy-friendly meals.
Can vegetarian or vegan dishes be offered?
A vegetarian main dish is always available at dinner. There is no explicitly vegan offer.
Are there lunch packages for excursions?
Yes, these can be ordered free of charge for children. For adults, a lunch package costs €8.
Are drinks included in the half-board?
No. With the classic pampering half-board, drinks are charged separately. Selected drinks are included with the optional all-inclusive offer.
Swimming Pool, Sauna & Wellness
Does the hotel have a swimming pool?
Yes. The panorama adventure pool includes a large indoor pool, a whirlpool, as well as separate baby, toddler, and children's pools. Depending on the season, a heated outdoor pool is also available.
Is there a separate bathing area for babies and toddlers?
Yes. There is an acoustically separated area from the large swimming pool with a baby pool, toddler pool, and children's pool with a rock slide.
When is the indoor pool open?
The panorama adventure pool is open daily from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM; on Tuesdays from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
How warm is the swimming pool?
The large swimming pool is about 30 °C, the whirlpool about 35 °C, and the baby and toddler pools about 32 °C.
When is the outdoor pool open?
There is a seasonal opening approximately from mid-May to early October, depending on the weather.
Do we need to bring bath towels or bathrobes?
No. Bath towels and bathing bags are provided for the family. Bathrobes are available for adults. Swim diapers are available free of charge on site; swim wings should be brought if possible.
Is there a sauna?
Yes. The sauna area includes, among others, a bio-herbal sauna, Finnish sauna, steam bath, and infrared cabin. Additionally, there is a family textile sauna.
When is the sauna open?
The sauna area is open daily from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The family textile sauna can be used daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
Is there a fitness room?
Yes. The fitness room is open daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM and features, among other equipment, a treadmill, ergometer, rowing machine, strength station, and mats.
Can massages and beauty treatments be booked?
Yes. The beauty and wellness oasis offers massages, cosmetics, foot care, and other treatments. Appointments can be made at the reception or already before arrival with the wellness team.
Is there a hotel swimming school?
No, currently there is no swimming instructor.
Riding & Riding School
Can you ride directly at the hotel?
Yes. The in-house riding school is located directly at the hotel complex. Riding lessons, group courses, pony rides, lunging, rides, and carriage rides for children and adults are offered.
Can beginners also take riding lessons?
Yes. The offer is aimed at beginners, advanced riders, and experienced riders. There are special introductory courses for children, in which the proper handling of horses is also taught.
Do riding lessons have to be reserved in advance?
Yes, advance reservation is expressly recommended. Riding lessons and carriage rides should preferably be arranged by phone before arrival to ensure the desired appointment.
Can you ride in winter as well?
Basically yes. Rides and pony offers are possible all year round. Riding lessons in the riding arena may be limited in winter depending on snow and weather conditions.
Are riding offers included in the hotel price?
No, riding lessons, rides, pony rental, and carriage rides are chargeable. Individual arrangements or programs may contain different services.
Can riding helmets be rented?
Yes. Certified riding helmets can be rented at the riding school. The rental fee is €3.
Are there carriage rides?
Yes. Carriage rides are offered all year round and can be requested for up to five people.
Summer, Leisure & Bad Hindelang PLUS
Is there a guest card or benefits for cable cars and admissions?
Yes. With the digital guest pass Bad Hindelang PLUS, you benefit depending on the season from free cable car and bus rides as well as free admissions and other inclusive experiences.
What is Bad Hindelang PLUS?
Bad Hindelang PLUS is the digital guest pass for holidays in Bad Hindelang. It bundles numerous inclusive services in the region, including cable cars, public transport, and various leisure offers.
How do I get Bad Hindelang PLUS?
After booking, you will receive a digital check-in link from the hotel. Afterwards, the personalized guest pass is available as a QR code via the Allgäu-Walser app or on the web. It is valid from the day of arrival.
Which services are included with Bad Hindelang PLUS?
Depending on the season, this includes cable car rides up and down, bus connections, and free admissions to selected leisure and bathing facilities. In summer, there are also numerous adventure and sports offers.
Can we ride the bus for free with Bad Hindelang PLUS?
Yes. The website lists free rides on the bus network around Bad Hindelang as well as connections to Sonthofen, Jungholz, and the Tannheimer Valley, among others.
What joint summer activities are there?
The leisure program includes, depending on the week, guided bike tours, fitness programs, yoga, torchlight hikes, archery, and other family activities. Additionally, paid excursions such as climbing forest or family rafting are offered.
Winter vacation, skiing & ski school
Is the ski pass included in winter?
Yes. With the digital Bad Hindelang PLUS guest pass, the participating cable cars and ski lifts can be used free of charge from one overnight stay. The guest pass serves as a ski or toboggan pass.
How far is the ski area?
The family-friendly ski areas Sonnenhang and Spieserlifte are located in Unterjoch. The Oberjoch ski area is about 6 minutes by car from the hotel.
Is there a free ski bus?
Yes. Bad Hindelang PLUS includes a ski bus to the Oberjoch ski areas and the Spieserlifte Unterjoch. For participants of the ski courses, a transfer from the hotel to the ski lifts is also provided.
Are there ski courses for children? From what age?
Yes. For hotel guests, children's and youth ski courses are offered from 4 years old. In Oberjoch, courses are available from 3 years old as well as a beginner's session for 2- to 3-year-olds.
Is there a ski school?
Yes. In cooperation with the Iseler ski school, ski, snowboard, cross-country skiing, and private courses are offered. Participation is via online booking.
How do hotel guests get to the ski school?
For courses for hotel guests, a transfer from the hotel to the Sonnenhang and Spieserlifte ski lifts is provided.
Is there a ski rental at the hotel or nearby?
Yes, there is a ski and snowboard rental directly on the hotel premises at the riding stable. Equipment can be reserved online in advance. Another ski school page also mentions a rental in Oberjoch for courses there.
Is there a ski depot or drying room solution?
Yes. The hotel has a ski storage room for drying shoes.
Are there winter activities without skiing?
Yes. Possible activities include tobogganing, cross-country skiing, skating, winter hiking, snowshoe hiking, ice skating, and horse-drawn carriage rides. Hotel guests can borrow sleds and bobsleds free of charge.
Is there a toboggan run near the hotel?
Yes, there is a natural toboggan run near the hotel about 500 m long, next to the hotel parking lot, below the church. It is only prepared when there is enough snow. Additionally, there are three longer natural toboggan runs at Imberger Horn.
Prices, Booking & Offers
Are there minimum stays, for example during holiday periods?
Short stays up to 3 nights are generally possible, but the prices of the next higher price category apply. For individual offers, minimum stays apply, for example 4 or 5 nights.
Are there discounts for children and up to what age?
There are age-graded children's prices, among others for children under 3, under 7, under 11 and under 16 years. In selected free-for-children weeks, children up to 7 years old stay free of charge under the respective offer conditions.
Is a tourist tax charged?
Yes. In addition to the travel price, the local tourist tax is charged.
How are the room prices indicated?
The prices of hotel rooms and family apartments are indicated per adult and night with half board. All inclusive for adults can be booked on site.
Cancellation, Deposit, Payment & Insurance
What cancellation conditions apply?
Cancellations must generally be made in writing according to the terms and conditions. If no deviating agreement has been made and re-rental is not possible, cancellation fees of 80% apply for accommodation with breakfast, 70% for half board or all inclusive, and 95% for holiday apartments. In case of no-show without cancellation, 100% will be charged.
Is a deposit required?
Yes, depending on the booking time. For bookings up to about 10 days before arrival, a prepayment of 30% of the total amount is required. For longer lead times, minimum prepayments within 14 days after reservation confirmation are specified depending on the length of stay and booking price.
Which payment methods are accepted?
Accepted are, among others, EC/debit card, Maestro, Visa and Mastercard. Additionally, advance bank transfer and cash payment on site are possible.
Is travel cancellation insurance recommended?
Yes. We explicitly recommend taking out travel cancellation insurance to protect you against financial consequences of unforeseeable events.
What happens in case of late arrival or early departure?
In case of delays, the hotel asks for telephone notification, especially for agreed transfers, to avoid waiting times. Paid services must be paid even if not used or delayed.
On-site Service
Is there a washing machine or dryer or a guest laundry or ironing facilities?
Washing and drying facilities are offered at the hotel for a fee. Guests will also find an iron and ironing board here.
Is there a pharmacy or a doctor nearby?
The doctor comes to the house on Tuesday at 3:00 pm, otherwise you will find him in Wertach, as well as the pharmacy.
Is there a supermarket nearby?
Yes, in Wertach. 8 km from Unterjoch.
Is there Wi-Fi - also in the rooms?
Yes. Free Wi-Fi is part of the hotel services and is available everywhere.
Is there room service?
Yes. Daily room service is provided in the rooms and family apartments of the hotel complex. In the Unterjoch holiday apartments, daily cleaning service is not included; it can be booked there for individual days at an extra charge.
Is there a possibility to securely park bicycles?
Yes, a bike garage for brought bicycles.
When is the hotel reachable by phone?
We are reachable daily from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm, including weekends.
Accessibility, Pets & House Rules
Is the hotel stroller-friendly, for example with an elevator or ramps?
Yes, the hotel is stroller-friendly.
Is the hotel accessible or wheelchair-friendly?
There are four wheelchair-accessible apartments available, one in the hotel and one about 80 m away. All are on the ground floor. Electrically adjustable care beds or insert frames and other aids can be rented for an additional charge.
Are there quiet times or a night rest?
Yes, from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
Are there smoking areas?
The rooms and apartments are non-smoking areas. Ashtrays are located on balconies or terraces as well as at the hotel entrances.
Are dogs or pets allowed?
Pets are allowed in selected rooms and apartments for an additional charge and should be indicated at the time of inquiry. Pets are not allowed in the restaurants. Dogs should be kept on a leash inside the building and on the hotel grounds.
